Obituary of Anne Hurst

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Anne, quietly ending her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease at Heidehof Home for The Aged, on Friday June 25th 2021, soon after her 74th birthday. Anne is survived by her beloved husband of almost 50 years,Donald Hurst. Adored mother of April Hurst, and cherished “Nanny” to grandson Millar. Loving aunt of Shannon, Jordan, Dagen, Ann, John (Davina), sisters-in-laws; Elaine Hurst and Carolyn Hurst-Gould. She will be reunited with her parents Annie and Thomas Cosgrove, sister Rose Quail, nephew Adam Hurst and brother-in-law Craig Hurst. There are many friends and family in Canada and Scotland who share this loss. Anne was born on May 25th 1947 in Glasgow, Scotland. She and her parents emigrated to St. Catharines when she was 16 yrs old. This lovingly resulted in her newfound nickname, “Scotty”. She then attended the St. Catharines Business College which lead her on a very successful entrepreneurial journey. Anne married her beloved Don in 1971, and after a brief time living in Stratford they moved to the beautiful town of St. Marys, whereshe, her family, and business thrived within the community thatshe loved so much. Owning The Coach House Ladies Wear and Gift Shop, and being a member of the Merchant’s Association, were very important to her. Her customers and staff were tremendous supporters for years. Some of Anne’s happiest memories came from her time in St. Marys, ladies’ night curling, mixed bonspiels, lunching at the Thames Restaurant with her good friends, being a second mom to many, and spending time with her dear friend, Madelyne. After returning to the Niagara Region, Anne worked closely with Don and the rest of the family-like staff at Henley Honda. At the end of her successful career, she retired to become “Nanny” to her grandson Millar. He was her pride and joy, and their special bond will last forever. Anne also treasured the time she and Don spent together, taking trips north, overseas and down south, with their beloved dog Molly. Anne will be remembered for her quick wit, story telling and love of laughter, for being gracious, generous, compassionate and nurturing. Anne loved her parents, being a wife, and a mother. She taught us all how to love unconditionally with unwavering commitment. We wish to thank the staff at Heidehof Home for the Aged for the loving care and compassion she received while in their charge. Friends and family will be received at Patrick Darte Funeral Home, 39 Court St. St. Catharines on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 from 12 pm – 2 pm. A service will be held in the Chapel at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Heidehof Home for the Aged would be gratefully acknowledged as expression of sympathy.
