Obituary of Sylvia Smith

SMITH, Sylvia Born May 10th, 1935 in Bradford, Yorkshire England. Passed away peacefully at the Hotel Dieu Shaver at the age of 86. Predeceased by her best friend & husband, Neil (December 16th, 2008) Predeceased by her parents Amy & Arthur Thornton of England, her twin sister Helen Thornton, her sister Ann Purcell and brother-in-law Frank Purcell all of St. Catharines, sister-in-law Kathleen Greenslade and brother-in-law Jack Smith. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Sylvia worked at Extendicare Nursing home before retiring in 1986 and volunteered her time with many charities. Special thanks to Dr. Kafie and the staff at the Hotel Dieu Shaver for their exceptional care. A very special thank you to my nieces Maureen Marshall and Jody Smith for all the rides, shopping trips and so much more and to my great niece Kara Hale for her care and compassion. Cremation has already taken place. Visitation will take place on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 10:30a.m.-11:30a.m. A celebration of Sylvia’s life will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Patrick Darte Funeral Home, 39 Court Street. Memorial donations to Community Care of St. Catharines or to One Foundation - Hotel Dieu Shaver would be appreciated.
