Obituary of James Ritchie
RITCHIE,James 'Jim' - Peacefully at the St.Catharines hospital on February 17th, 2023. Predeceased by his beloved wife Trudy (2001). Loving Father to Maureen (Al) Flaugnatti and Steve (Malena) Ritchie. Cherished Grandfather to Lisa (Jeff) and Eric (Katie). Proud Great-Grandfather to Quinn and Levi. Also survived by sister Madeline Scott (the late John), sister-in-laws Rosalind McLennan (the late John) of Scotland and Joan Hofer (the late Fleury) of Rochester, NY. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Jim was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland in 1928. After a tour in the army, Jim had an appointment with a local chiropodist (Trudy Hofer) - they fell in love and immigrated to Canada in 1952. After working in northern Ontario, Jim and family settled in St.Catharines. He was an employee of GM, retiring in 1989. James loved adventuring all over Ontario, taking his family on many camping holidays. Following retirement, there were great years that were spent at the family cottage in Port Loring, as well as some international travel. A recent highlight was the birth of his two great-grandchildren. Jim will be missed for his sense of humour, always being up for a laugh, his charming Scottish brogue, discussing current events, and reminiscing about good times past. Cremation has taken place, with a private family gathering at a later date. Online condolences may be shared on Jim’s tribute page at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel webpage (pjdartefh.ca). In lieu of flowers, donations to The Heart & Stroke Foundation in memory of Jim are appreciated by the family.
