I wish somebody had told me that my father was dying. He was never there for me when I needed him, but I deserved to know should we have decided to reconcile before he crossed over.
May he rest in peace.

Karl was an extra special person. He lightened our lives with stories of working in Saudi Arabia and his delight in the recent Elvis movie. Karl always had a warm hello spoken with sincerity. We will remember you.

Dear Viola and family,
We certainly enjoyed our friendship through the years as neighbours. Some of our fondest memories with Karl was our driveway chats in the early evening hours, in the warm weather months, in particular. Karl was dressed in his evening pajama-like attire, sipping his favourite libation and we were sharing stories of kids/grandkids or current events. Sending love and thinking of all good memories. Condolences and thoughts to Viola and Karl's family on the passing of my good friend, mentor, and one time boss . Karl and I were peers at CAMCO in the 90's - I came to admire and respect his professional style, talent, confidence, original thought, and sense of humour. Apart from mastering challenging technical stuff, we often spoke of family, and world events - we shared many laughs together at work - I really enjoyed Karls sense of humour. In stressful work times KB always was cool and collected , even glib at the right moment - to a UK business GM in tense meeting : "Hey Ed - now your just making shit up !" Karl brought me on board at HSML, and was a great boss & mentor for me for seven years at HSML. We enjoyed a wobbly pop once, after months of legal mediation - it was a special moment of mutual respect for the win. KB was always an engaged, interested and kind friend to me.
I will miss you, my friend.

There are so many stories of Karl throughout the years. Like the summer he got me an engineering summer student placement at his manufacturing plant in Hamilton…I never studied engineering a day in my life. I asked him if he was ok with this, it was his workplace and reputation after all. He would simply say “Neil, if I’m not worried you don’t have to be either”. Besides generosity, Karl was the type of person who was always up for anything. He married my Mother, who was 100% Finnish. Over the years Karl travelled to Finland with my mom, he hosted various Finnish relatives here in Canada, made countless visits to random Finnish stores and built saunas in basements of homes. All with pride and a smile on his face. What stands out most of all though, is how amazingly Karl treated my Mom. So calm, even when perhaps the rest of us weren’t. So entertained when the rest of us may have been at our wits end. Such a strong presence in the most understated manner. Even though we all knew how this last battle of Karl’s would end, it doesn’t make it any easier. Life can truly be cruel and seemingly unfair. I guess we were the lucky ones to have known Karl in the first place though. Those who didn’t missed out on a good one. We all wish you peace Karl. You are already missed.
Neil, Diana and Eila.
