I send my sincere condolences to all the Flynn family. I got to know Hugh through the Cathedral St. Vincent De Paul Society. When i joined the Cathedral Conference Hugh was the president.Through working with him I learned much about the history of the Society from Hugh. I also learned the true meaning of our mission, " to see Christ in the poor".I gradually learned enough that when Hugh decided to retire from the presidency , I succeeded him as president. This let a long relationship in person and later by mail and e-mail.I will miss our comradeship. Tom Owens

To my friend Hugh,
I first met Hugh in the 1960s at work in Ireland. We became good friends and during the early part of the 1970s we had talked together with Billy Hanna about packing up and going to live in Canada.
Billy and Doreen and family went first, followed in early 1973 by Hugh and Kathleen and family. Later that year we the Watkins family, left Carrickfergus and I went to Canada. Hugh and Kathleen took me in, a few weeks later, after I had spent some time with an insurance company, training in Toronto, I was reunited with the rest of my immediate family , Marilyn, Alison and Lynne’s. Hugh and Kathleen took took us all in for a few weeks, living in a large house on Linwell in St Catharines.
Although cramped, living with the Flynns was a joy. Our daughters, Alison and Lynne were enrolled in the family duties and entertainment rotas under the stewardship of Desmond. They loved it. We were never made to feel as if we were a burden. We all went for a weekly combined food shop at K Mart and there were so many brown paper bags going to checkout, that Kathleen and Marilyn disappeared, embarrassed, and went to Tim Hortons while Hugh and me checked out into 2 large car boots/ trunks.
They were happy days, leaving us with many happy memories. Who else would have done that for our family?.
Hugh was a good man, a strong and happy family man. Hugh was always available for good solid advice. Sometimes, whether I needed it or not!!.
I am proud to say that Hugh Flynn was my friend. Maybe some day we will meet again. Though age has made me a patient man. So there’s no rush. Goodbye Hugh you’ll be sadly missed. …..your friend Bryn.

I only got to know Hugh when he moved into the apartments at Tabor. We had a special connection from the start as my dad's name is also Hugh. Not to common. I was the screener and I would tease Hugh about his signature asking if he had counted the strokes. He said no one could copy it. It was a pleasure to meet several family members as well during the last couple years. My condolences to each one. May God comfort you.
