Obituary of Honourable Donald Taliano

Taliano, the Honourable Mr. Justice Donald ~ After a brief illness passed away peacefully at the St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton on Sunday, December 20, 2015. In his 77th year, Honourable Donald John Peter Taliano, beloved husband of Ruth Taliano (nee Bastable). Loving father of Lisa Taliano, Christopher Taliano (Angela) and Mark Gilroy. Loved Grandpa of Lauren, Paige, Kyle and Gavyn. Dear brother of Dr. Albert Taliano (Shirley) and Judy (Dr. Robert Casciato). Dear brother-in-law of Diane (George Bowman). Remembered by Anne Taliano. Fondly remembered by his cousins, friends and his many nieces and nephews. His special friends Zack, Zoe, Katie and Jake will miss their master. Don graduated from the University of Western Ontario Law School in 1964. Serving a two year term on St Catharines City Council, Don was called to the Ontario Bar in 1966. As a lawyer, Don practiced with the St Catharines firm of Chown, Cairns from 1966 to 1983. Appointed to the bench in 1983 as a Judge of the Country and District Court of Ontario in Newmarket by the Pierre Trudeau government, Don returned to his beloved hometown of St Catharines in 1997 under a now merged Superior Court of Justice. Don had a distinguished 30 year career as a Judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Retiring in 2014, Don began offering his services as a Mediator and Arbitrator in association with the firm of Graves & Richard. Visitation will be held at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, 39 Court Street, St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Sunday, December 27, 2015 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 9pm. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at 8:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria, 67 Church Street, St. Catharines (905-648-8433) on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 2pm. Memorial donations to either Hospice Niagara (905-984-8766), St Peters Hospital Foundation (905-522-3863), and Lincoln County Humane Society (905-682-0767) would be appreciated by the family.
