Obituary of John Korosis

KOROSIS, John – Passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Loving husband of his cherished wife of 50 years, Georgia (nee Rigas), beloved sons Harry (Gina) and Peter (special friend Valerie Astudillo). Loving Papou of Yianni, Eirini and the late Peter. Dear brother of George (Maria) residing in Chicago; Assimakis (Angelliki) and Stamatoula (Eleftherios) residing in Montreal; and, Christos (Voula) and Andreas residing in Denver. Dear brother-in-law of the late Martha Zacharias (late George) of Skala, Nafpaktias, Greece; Kostas Rigas (Nicolitsa) residing in Nafpaktos, Greece; Ann Brigis (late John), George Rigas (Lorraine), late Nick Rigas (Argiri) and Christos Rigas (Tina), all residing in the Niagara Region. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada, U.S.A. and Greece. John was the second oldest of the six children of the late Harilaos and Eirini Korosis, of Nafpaktos, Greece. John emigrated from Greece to Canada on October 23, 1968. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s he was co-owner of Peppermint Stick/Rainbow Dairies in Niagara Falls; and, from the mid-1980’s to late 1990’s he was the owner of Welland Plaza Restaurant. The Korosis family wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation for the excellent, attentive and compassionate care provided John by: Dr. Evangelos Kouros of Welland; Dr. Nagai, Cindy Duckett (Charge Nurse), Joanne Wintemute (Social Worker) and the many other nurses and support personnel of the Kidney Care Program of the Niagara Health System (“NHS”); Dr. Linda Lee and the many nurses and support personnel at the NHS’s Walker Family Cancer Center; NHS – St. Catharines Hospital Site ’s Palliative Care Team; and, Hospice Niagara.
