McCormick, Wesley “Wes” WW II Veteran
Passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Sunday May 3, 2015. In his 91st year, Wesley Byers McCormick,beloved husband of Yvette (Betty) McCormick (nee Racine) since 1956. Loving father of Cheryl and her husband Thomas Kemsley. Loved grandfather of David and Thomas jr. and his wife Amanda. Great grandfather of Emelia.Predeceased by four brothers Willard, Edward, Edwin and Stewart McCormick and by three sisters Lillian Findlay, Winnie Graham and Audry Hudas. Wes served during WW II with the Royal Canadian Navy joining at the tender age of fifteen and was also a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion.Wes’s working career included Silverwood Dairies and Thompson Products. His love of sports involved bowling, curling, playing hockey for the St. Catharines TeePees, floor hockey, serving as referee, umpiring AAA hardball, and chief umpire for the City of St. Catharines. Wes loved calling square dances, dancing, people, helping young people, telling jokes and stories. Visitation will be held at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, 39 Court St., St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 24 are requested to attend a memorial service on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 6:45pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday May 9, 2015 at 11am. Interment in Pleasantview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fonthill. Memorial donations to the Lincoln County Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.
