Condolences to Dobson Family. I learned to know John when he asked for assistance to publish his life story. After reviewing his manuscript, it was no surprise to learn his chosen title, "Determination to Survive."
He was a gentleman, who had talent for fixing anything.
Blessings to you.

Very sorry to hear about John's passing. He was a real gentleman. I had the pleasure of working with John at the Region of Peel in the 80's. John was excellent at his job and I learned a lot from him. I loved hearing his many stories from his time out west to when he came to Ontario and all the various jobs he did. I had never campaigned for anything in my life but John talked me into campaigning for The Arthritis Society which I did for a few years. John tried his hand at brewing his own beer and it was excellent beer. I had the pleasure of sampling a few pints. John had a great sense of humour. One day I saw that he was making what looked like a shark fin on a board. He said he wanted to tow it behind a boat so that it would appear that there was a shark in the water. I was really happy for John when he sold his house and the lot next to him and bought a peach orchard in Niagara. I thought it was a great fit for John and he was able to enjoy it for many years. He was a hard worker which is required to own an orchard. John suffered from arthritis and he was able to overcome his ailment. I was at his house one day and he mentioned that it was going to rain as he could feel it because of his arthritis. It was sunny at the time and I thought he might be wrong. It started raining within the hour. John will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of my dear friend,John’s family. John was truly a very special person making the most of his talents and opportunities throughout his life. I was so fortunate to meet him a few years ago when he traveled to Florida and then got to know him and learn his life story
as we traveled around Canada to visit his family and deliver the copies of family history that he, his late wife Evelyn and sister Evelyn had compiled through their travels. I loved meeting each of the family who were so welcoming to me,a stranger, and dearly loved learning the story of John’s family and
his life as we traveled throughout his country from his place of birth, to cemeteries where family members lie. As I was hearing stories of his life we were often traveling where they took place and talking with family. I was enjoying the beauty and diversity of John’s country while learning history along the way. John was so interested in everything around him and everyone. He was interested in learning new things , like swimming and playing musical instruments! He was always up for a game of cards , or horseshoes or cooking a new recipe.
When I went into Canada at this time last year , John drove me all around the area, showing me the peach orchard and home he and Evelyn had bought for retirement!! He showed me his church, cemetary where he will join Evelyn, all the places where he lived in that lovely area. We visited the community center where everyone stopped to visit with him. John was a man who lived his life to the fullest- I will so miss him!
Love to each and everyone of his family!

Dear Patrick and Dobson Family: my deepest condolences with the loss of your father John. I will never forget the Father & Son participation on the pilgrimage to the Holy Land; John's kindness and interest spoke volumes. A bit after we enjoyed a Sunday afternoon reunion in his orchard. Just recently I drove by and was reminded again! We will never forget John's beautiful smile. Wishing Patrick and family much strength and courage to walk onward in your Dad's footsteps. Sincerely yours, ineke brinkman
