I met Nish when we were both in first year law. Jo-An, I hope you remember that we met during our high school years.
Nish had a great sense of humour and never took the law too seriously. Above all he was a gentleman through and through.
My condolences, Richard Rusek

Dear Family:
I am truly sorry for your loss and also our loss of a wonderful man. I have known Nish for only about 6 years as I so enjoyed his company, wit, and spiritual presence at our Holy Name Society Retreats and Conventions. He had a great smile and a tremendous personality that touched everyone he came in contact with. I consider myself a better man for having known him. He will surly be missed by all. Please know that Nish and your whole family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Dearest Jo-An and Family.
It was with profound sadness that I read, in today's Windsor Paper of Nish's passing. Although we only saw each other a couple times a year, He was a dear friend and a man of integrity, decency, honour, family and humour.
We shared many great times at our annual fall reunions in London and riotous polenta dinners in Windsor.
We had a common ancestry as our parents came from the same part of Friuli in Italy and enjoyed speaking in a "broken" Friulan/Trevisan dialect.
He will be forever missed and his memory cherished.
I am sure he has reunited with our buddies Peter Fera and Mike Irwin who also passed away this year and are enjoying a good cigar together.
With deepest sympathy and fondest memories.

I've known Nish since 1978, when my Uncle Don Greco introduced me to the lawyer who like us, had been born in Timmins. He took me under his wing after I was called to the bar, which I greatly appreciated as those were not great years financially speaking. But most of all were all the BBQ's and road trips he organized. He loved people, and was a real character. So how exactly did he make those ribs?

Having Nish as a best friend was an honour, a privilege and a blessing from God, They never have, and never will, come any better. We had many great times with fond memories that I will always remember and deeply cherish: our trips with our buddies to South Bend, Indiana for a Notre Dame football game and whatever other sports events were on campus that weekend, tail gate parties at the Buffalo Bills' games, our annual fishing trips when catching a few fish was just a bonus because just enjoying one another's company was good enough, and the back yard barbecues that he loved to host. Nish was a real fun loving guy who always appreciated telling and hearing a good joke. He was also a serious man when it came to demonstrating his faith in, and his deep love for God. Whenever I made the call to ask if he was "on board" for our annual men's religious retreat there was never any hesitation with an affirmative "yes" , We phoned each other on a regular basis, not for any earth shattering reason, but just to say hello, how are you doing? hope all is well. He was the epitome of a caring best friend and I will miss him dearly. We often spoke about our proud Italian heritage and the importance of love and respect for family, essential ingredients for the recipe of a successful and happy life passed on by our parents who certainly had the experience of hard work and sacrifice. Right now, it's not goodbye my friend "Nish", it's just so long for now. Enjoy God's kingdom of heaven which you so well deserve. May Nish's soul and the souls of all of the faithfully departed rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with Nish and his family.

Dear Jo-An and Family
I wanted to tell you how sorry we are to hear of Nish's passing. Our dad, Peter Birtles held Nish in very high esteem. I think that Peter, a policeman, came to know Nish through being a cop, however, he soon became a client, and maybe even a friend.
May Nish's memory be a blessing.
sincerely
Stephen, Sheila and Alison Birtles
