One fond childhood memory I have was our excitement when we visited with Ome Jon and Tante Ton as we got the treat of Dixie cups from the Dixie cup dispenser in the bathroom - that had jokes on them! We loved that:) I was also touched when Tante Ton thought of me when she was able to get me a couple of mannequins [to display our vintage dresses] when Canadian Haircloth closed. Todd and I still have one and Kevin now has the other displaying Heineken and/or Dutch soccer/football gear depending on the season:) She was a kind person. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, especially Gerry, Nellie and Michael.

Mary and I extend our sympathy to the entire extended family of my Tante Toni, most especially Gerry, Nellie and Michael. Your mother was so sweet, gentle, and generous. We still have some of the most beautifully hand-knit sweaters, booties and hats that Tante Ton gave us when our children were born. These sets if knitwear have been worn by several of our grandchildren. Seeing them always reminds me of Tante Toni’s kindness. What a lovely legacy for you all to treasure! We will keep Tame Toni, and all of you in our prayers. Josef van Ruyven.

Tante Toni and Ome John were cousins of our mother Apolinia (vanLeeuwen) van Ruyven. She came to Canada one year after our parents and were close friends and support throughout the years building a future together. Our siblings were friends as I attended DMHS with Nellie. Tante Toni was a kind, soft spoken, gentle woman. Her children are blessed to have had her as a mom. God Bless each of you as you grieve her passing and may your fond memories of her be a comfort during the time that follows. Marcel and Caroline VanRuyven.

I have many fond memories of Tante Ton. I remember when I was young my mom and I visited her often. She always had the curliest hair. When we went to Sherkson in the old days we had a wind tent set up on the beach. It was made of white canvas. My parents donated it as Tante Ton was sewing Raggedy Ann dolls for charity. (She did alot of charity work). She made me one and I have it to this day. As I got older she sewed me many skirts and blouses. She was so talented. I will miss her kind soul and her beautiful smile.

Rest in His Loving Arms, Tante Toni. Thank you for teaching us how to use our creativity to transform sun porches and living rooms into bedrooms, and to use our talents to benefit others. Your contentment with being at home has also been an amazing comfort. One small thing: how you loved to serve maple walnut ice cream and I’m sorry but I still haven’t acquired a taste for it. We’ll do ne, sweet lady.
